Ministry of Justice Puts the Brakes on Whiplash Reform

The Ministry of Justice is reconsidering planned reforms to whiplash claims and will be putting forward fresh proposals. It had been previously announced by the government that it would introduce legislation to prevent awards for whiplash injuries and increase the small claims limit for personal injury claims to £5,000.00.

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that it still intends to take steps to reduce the number of whiplash claims and their cost. They intend to set out their plans in “due course”.

The news has been welcomed by the Law Society and many Claimant firms that were concerned that the planned reforms would reduce access to justice and prevent those with genuine injuries from being able to seek proper recourse.
