A Change In Address

It has been announced today that there is a change of practice in how Judges should be addressed in Court.

From 02.12.22, the following Judges will now be addressed as “Judge” rather than “Sir/Madam”:

  • Masters
  • Upper Tribunal Judges
  • Judges of the Employment Appeal Tribunal
  • District Judges
  • District Judges (Magistrates Courts)
  • First-Tier Tribunal Judges
  • Employment Judges

This new terminology is an attempt to move to modern simplistic terminology and to assist litigants in person to address judges correctly.

It does not affect official judicial titles.

We will provide further updates if any additional judges are brought under this terminology.
