The assessment centre commences with a second interview, conducted by an advocacy manager and a member of our Human Resources team. This includes a more in-depth review of the applicant’s CV and some skills based questions, designed to further test the applicant’s competency and suitability for the role.
Following the interview there is a closed book written knowledge exercise, a mock telephone call with a solicitor client, a mock hearing and a final written exercise, in which the applicant is required to write a report of the hearing for the client.
The assessment centre is designed to test applicants on their ability to prepare, put forward their client’s case, think on their feet, apply the law to the facts and explain the law in layman’s terms. We also assess their written communication skills and knowledge of the relevant law and procedure and ability to understand how the law operates in practical situations.
Finally, applicants must supply details of two referees whom we may contact to verify employment and qualification records and to confirm characteristics such as reliability, time keeping, honesty and integrity.
