On arriving at court on the day of the hearings you will be acting on behalf of an instructing solicitor and you must liaise with any defendants that attend and where appropriate, negotiate a settlement on your client’s behalf. You must liaise with your instructing solicitors throughout this process.
Following this, you will represent your instructing solicitor in court before a District Judge. You must put forward their case and make the necessary submissions to obtain the most favourable order possible.
Finally, you are required to submit an attendance note for each hearing, accurately summarising the submissions made by each party, the order obtained from the Judge and the reasoning behind the Judge’s decision.
A Day in the Life
Briefs are sent to you by post, DX or email normally 5 days in advance of the hearing. Alternatively, if you work from London you may collect your papers from our office.
